Dougie MacLean
This Saturday, 17 December 2011, Scrum will be visiting Scotland’s smallest distillery, Edradour in Pitlochry for nosing, tasting and selecting a cask of whisky which will be presented as their very own Special Scrum Selection on 27 January 2012 at theatre De Flint in Amersfoort (The Netherlands).
After having selected a cask of whisky Scrum will be playing a small acoustic set in the distillery hall. This very special concert will be given for Andrew Symington and his entire Edradour staff, relations, locals and very special guest Dougie MacLean. Dougie, a good friend of Andrew and writer of the wonderful song Caledonia (covered by Scrum on their latest album Killing Time), has had the honour of selecting a whisky a few years ago, which is now widely known as the Edradour Caledonia whisky, celebrating Homecoming Scotland in 2009.
Whisky importer Van Wees (Amersfoort, The Netherlands) offered Scrum a whisky sponsor deal for their theatre tour called ‘A Night at the Pub’, offering them an “almost unlimited supply” of an already existing whisky brand. But after having seen their theatre show (based on Edinburgh’s wee folk pub The Royal Oak), Van Wees was rather impressed with what he saw and decided Scrum deserve their own whisky.
The night prior to visiting the Edradour Distillery Scrum will return to the Royal Oak in Edinburgh where they haven’t been as a band since June 2008. Maybe they’ll even a play some tunes!
